Owner Operator of the Month – March 2025 – Clay
04/28/2025At Trailer Transit, our drivers are more than just professionals behind the wheel—they’re family members, explorers, creators, and adventurers. We recently surveyed a group of our power only drivers to get a glimpse of who they are beyond the rig. Their answers reflect the diversity, depth, and drive that make owner operators such a unique part of the transportation industry.
Whether you’re a seasoned power only trucking professional or just starting to explore life as an owner operator, you’ll find something to relate to—or be inspired by—in these stories from the road.

Off-Duty Passions: Hobbies & Interests
When they’re not hauling cross-country loads, our drivers are spending time with family, restoring old cars, fishing, crafting, and diving into creative hobbies like graphic design. These off-duty passions are as varied as the drivers themselves, showing that life behind the wheel is just one piece of who they are.
A few of our favorites stood out:
- “Spending time with my family.”
- “Old cars—working on them with my wife.”
- “Graphic design and crafts.”
- “Fishing. A lot of fishing.”
Some drivers enjoy peaceful hobbies to unwind, while others love getting their hands dirty with classic cars or personal projects. What ties them all together is a desire to make the most of their downtime, and a clear appreciation for the freedom that life as an owner operator provides.
Where the Road Leads: Bucket List Dreams
We asked drivers to share their top three bucket list experiences, and the answers were a mix of classic travel goals, personal aspirations, and meaningful life missions. Even though many of our power only drivers have covered thousands of miles, their bucket lists prove that the road ahead is always full of new possibilities.
Popular travel picks included:
- Yellowstone National Park
- The Grand Canyon
- Mount Rushmore
- Our nation’s capitol
Others dreamed of once-in-a-lifetime trips like riding the Orient Express, traveling to Italy, or visiting famous libraries around the world. And a few offered deeply personal goals—like “beating cancer,” “staying happy,” and “living life to the fullest.”
These dreams reveal the heart behind the hustle. Being on the road for a living doesn’t stop our drivers from dreaming big—it fuels it.

If Not Driving… Then What?
We also asked, “If you could do anything other than trucking, what would it be?” The answers showed just how multi-talented and thoughtful our drivers are. While some couldn’t imagine leaving the driver’s seat (“I love trucking—every trip”), others would pursue careers that align with their other strengths and interests.
Some responses included:
- A dispatcher or general manager
- A police officer
- A graphic designer
- Continuing as a mechanic, working on cars and forklifts
These choices reflect a strong work ethic, an interest in leadership, and a natural pull toward skilled trades and service. For many, power only trucking is a calling, not just a job. It’s inspiring to see the creativity and potential our drivers carry with them—both on and off the road.
More Than a Job—It’s a Lifestyle
Being an owner operator isn’t just about hauling loads—it’s about living life on your own terms. Whether you’re rebuilding old cars, dreaming of standing at the edge of the Grand Canyon, or simply enjoying time with your family between runs, we see you—and we’re proud that you’re part of Trailer Transit.
We know that power only drivers thrive when they have the freedom to be themselves, both on the road and at home. At Trailer Transit, we’re committed to supporting that balance. Whether you’re already an owner operator or thinking about joining the world of power only trucking, know this: the road is open, and so are the possibilities.
