1Do you have a Lease Purchase Program?
No. Trailer Transit does not offer any type of lease purchase programs.
2Do you allow passengers?
Yes. Trailer Transit will allow a passenger over the age of 18 to ride along in your tractor after the proper paperwork and insurances are filled out.
3Can I run under my own authority?
No. We require every owner operator to run under Trailer Transit’s authority.
4I already paid my base plate for the year, can I use my own?
No. Trailer Transit requires that you run under an Indiana base plate. We do have a base plate incentive program that will pay for your base plate the following year if you run 80,000 loaded miles with no incidents or accidents.
5Can I lease on a tractor I own but have a driver operate it for me?
In an instance like this, we would require a Power of Attorney giving the driver all responsibility over the tractor as well as dispatch and pay.
6Do you have dedicated lanes or routes? Regional or local lanes?
No we do not. All owner operators leased on to Trailer Transit run Over The Road and cover all 48 states and Canada with no force dispatch.
7Is there a year requirement on the tractor?
Trailer Transit does not require a specific year in order to lease on. We do require that every new owner operators have a tractor that can run our ELD system.
8I already have an ELD system, can I continue to use it if I lease on with Trailer Transit?
We require that every owner operator leased onto Trailer Transit run our EROAD ELD system.
9What is the rate of pay for your owner operators?
Every owner operator gets paid the same percentage across the board for all loads. 100% of the fuel service charge and 71% of the line haul.
10Do you need to have any endorsements in order to lease onto Trailer Transit?
Trailer Transit does not require any endorsements. However, we do encourage every owner operator to attain Tanker.
11What types of trailers and freight does Trailer Transit handle?
Trailer Transit hauls a wide range of commercial trailers. These include dry vans, flatbeds, tankers, specialty equipment, exhibition trailers, and more. We focus strictly on trailer moves. No loading, unloading, or tarping.
12What is power only trucking, and how does it work at Trailer Transit?
Power only trucking you supply the tandem axle sleeper tractor, and we supply the trailer. At Trailer Transit, you’ll haul customer-owned trailers to destinations across all lower 48 states and Canada. You don’t need to own or lease a trailer; just bring a qualified tractor and a professional mindset.
13How do I pick up the first trailer?
Once leased on, dispatch assigns your first load and coordinates the trailer pickup location. You'll receive full pickup and delivery instructions along with any special handling notes. We work to get you moving quickly and efficiently.
14How is maintenance managed?
As an owner-operator, you're responsible for maintaining your tractor in safe working condition. Trailer maintenance remains the responsibility of the trailer owner. Our support team is available to help if maintenance issues impact your freight hauling.
15How can I become a power only carrier?
You’ll need to lease on with Trailer Transit as an independent contractor, which includes providing proof of a qualified tandem axle sleeper tractor, a valid Class A CDL, and meeting other vehicle requirements. Once approved, you can start hauling power only freight with us.
16What are power only shipments?
Power only shipments involve hauling an empty trailer or pre-loaded trailer for a customer using your own tractor. It’s a fast, efficient way to stay on the road without dealing with live loading or unloading.
17Is a CDL required to pull travel trailers?
Yes, to pull travel trailers as part of Trailer Transit’s trucking support services, you must hold a valid Class A CDL. These are not recreational tows. They are commercial loads that require proper licensing, experience, and DOT compliance.
18What are the safety and compliance expectations?
All owner-operators must follow DOT, FMCSA, and Trailer Transit safety policies. This includes using approved equipment, keeping your vehicle in top shape, meeting inspection standards, and following route instructions.
19How do I get loads for power only trucking?
Our experienced dispatch team assigns loads based on your location, availability, and tractor compatibility. We aim to keep your wheels turning as much as possible.

Loads are dispatched by our in-house team. When assigning freight hauling, we consider your preferred lanes, home time, and availability. We work with you to keep freight flowing and minimize downtime.
23Do I need to own a trailer to work with Trailer Transit?
No, you just need a qualified tandem axle sleeper tractor. We’re a power only trucking service, and all trailers are provided by the customer and assigned through our dispatch team.
24Does Trailer Transit operate all over the United States and Canada?
We provide power only freight throughout the lower 48 states and Canada. Cross-border experience is a plus, and we assist with required documentation. Drivers who meet border-crossing requirements and possess proper documentation can runs loads in and out of Canada. It is a great way to expand your mileage and income.
25Does Trailer Transit provide a fuel discount program?
We offer a competitive fuel discount program through national partners. We’ll share the details once you’re on board.
26Are there any upfront fees or costs to lease on with Trailer Transit?
There are no hidden fees. However, owner-operators are responsible for insurance, equipment maintenance, and meeting leasing qualifications. We’ll walk you through all costs during the application process.
27How long does the application process take?
Most qualified drivers complete the application process in five to seven business days. Timelines may vary based on paperwork, background checks, and tractor inspections.
28What are some of the basic requirements for leasing with Trailer Transit?
All Trailer Transit Owner Operators use an IN IRP base plate, Trailer Transit’s authorities, and an ELD, which Trailer Transit provides.
